Hey there Tupelo fans! I'm Erin, a 20-something gringa living in the tranquilo suburbs of San Jose, Costa Rica. I moved down here a year ago in response to the recently popular mid-20s life crisis that is, "What the heck am I doing with my life?" Living in Boston I was your typical nine-to-five, bar hopping, shopaholic, party-goer. You know the type... Which, in all honesty, was a great lifestyle. Until I woke up one morning and realized I was polluting my body, my mind, and my planet.
So, I moved to the jungle. It's all or nothing for this chica. My mom called my secluded bungalow "glorified camping". But nestled in the hills of Monteverde, three klicks to the closest pulperia, something shifted. I'm sure there is more than one cause for my change in perspective. But, for me, I think it boils down to the boob tube.

Since the move, I no longer own a television. Surprisingly, I don't miss it. More interestingly, with no TV came no ads, no wants, no needs. And all of a sudden I had a lot of time on my hands. Time for gardening, hiking, yoga, raw food recipes, star gazing, and an all around good old-fashioned natural lifestyle.
My favorite new activity is the Feria del Agricultor, or Farmer's Market. The juiciest part of Costa Rica has to be the frutas tropicales. Even a banana tastes like heaven down here. I get up early, Tupelo Bag in tow, and hike into town for first pick of the freshest organic produce.

Someone always wants to know where I found such a snazzy grocery bag. The feria is a great time to reconnect with neighbors, meet new faces, and practice my Spanish while we chat about clever solutions; like reusable carryalls, that contribute to a cleaner planet.
So I hope you'll join me as I continue to experiment. My dream is that together we can find the balance of living well and having fun while nurturing the very place that makes it all possible.
Topics to look forward to include: trial and error composting, living without mirrors, and how long I can go without buying ANYTHING that comes in a package.
Pura Vida!!
