about the founder
tupelo bags was was created by Becca Kennerly - a lifelong purse lover who believes a beautiful bag can still be as functional as that of Mary Poppins'.
"I am the kind of person that always likes to be prepared but also loves spontaneity in life. In my favorite everyday handbag, I keep all of the necessities stowed away in the smallest travel sizes you can find. I really do feel like Mary Poppins sometimes when I think about what my fantastic purse holds inside: hairbrush, chapstick, pen, notebook, wallet, keys, phone, sunglasses, gloves, umbrella, hand lotion, nail file, hair bands, passport, water bottle, and my shopping bag - all in a handbag of medium size.
After reading about the detrimental effects plastic has on our environment and the number of animals that die from ingesting them each year, I stepped into a new level of environmental-awareness and made a change in my shopping habits to incorporate reusable bags. I quickly realized that most of the options available were bulky and inconvenient to keep in my purse, and I am the kind of shopper who appreciates flexibility in my shopping schedule.
I have also relied solely on public transportation for the last four years, which changes your shopping habits considerably. There is no car to keep bags in or to transport your groceries, and I shop much more frequently and buy only what I can carry home. If my bag breaks, it's a long walk. When creating our reusable shopping bag, I wanted something that I could always keep in my purse but didn't take up too much room, and also wanted it to be strong, cute, and easy to carry over my shoulder.
I started tupelo in hopes of spreading environmental awareness with a bag that will also make your efforts to reuse more convenient, stylish, durable, and fun. Your business means the world to me, and I hope your shopping experiences are green and enjoyable."
